Recycled energy efficient roofing tiles with shake look
The newest member of the EcoStar family of premium steep slope roof tiles is the Empire Shake line of products; it's a sustainable, durable product with recycled content that contributes to an energy efficient building envelope. Empire Shake comes in 12 beautiful muted colors, and each bundle has three different widths to give an authentic shake look. It's also available in a beefier shake which is 3/4" thick (Shake Plus) instead of 3/8".
Empire Shake tiles perform better than normal wood shake, slate or asphalt shingles, conserves energy, has a lower carbon footprint, and is made in the USA with recycled rubber and plastic. They are designed for harsh climates such as: driving wind, hail, falling trees, fire (class A rated) and just about anything nature can deliver.
Empire Slate lasts as long or longer than wood shake, metal, clay tile, slate or concrete roofing and has a 50-year warranty to back it up. It also is more durable than these other roofing materials in terms of resistance to freeze-thaw, denting from hail, breakage from falling trees or from contractors working on the roof. In addition, repairs, although rarely needed, are far easier and less expensive.

EcoStar has developed a new formulation for roof tiles to achieve both high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) performance, and low emissivity. In the warmer climates, both homes and commercial buildings are subject to thermal gain in daylight hours. The SRI of the Empire Shake tiles reduces this gain by reflecting the sun’s heat energy back into space, as opposed to being absorbed by the building envelope. The low emissivity rating works in the opposite way, allowing buildings to retain their heat energy in night time hours and reducing the Urban Heat Island effect.

Why We Like It
EcoStar has outdone themselves by adding critical energy efficient features to their popular recycled roofing tile. Aesthetically speaking, the color palette is extraordinary.
If you're thinking about clay tile, slate, concrete or metal roofing, talk to your neighbors first to find out the truth about actual costs of installation and repair — if they'll admit it. Don't forget the extra costs of structural engineering, rubber membranes and highly skilled labor. Working on a traditional slate, concrete or metal roof to repair a fallen tree or to install a solar panel, chimney or satellite dish is not only risky but very expensive as well.
Recycled rubber tile is virtually indestructible and impervious to the elements, plus it looks just like real slate. It requires no special engineering and installs with less expensive labor. Working on this roof to repair damages is far less risky and results in less damage to the trades-person and to the roof.
Features & benefits

- Upscale appearance — 12 muted colors to match most color palettes; can easily be blended, (see Blending pdf on right margin)
- Energy efficient — high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) and low emissivity saves energy
- Flexible warranty — available with either a 70-mph or 110-mph wind warranty
- Fire-safe — Class A fire rating; may reduce insurance costs
- Long-lasting — available with a 50-year Gold Star or Limited Materials Warranty

ALERT: Must remove all existing roofing prior to installation. Roof deck must be a min. of 1/2 plywood, 7/16 OSB, or 3/4 tongue and groove wood. Not recommended for slopes less than 3/12. Use 7" exposure for roofs with 3/12 to 6/12. Use 7" or 8" for roofs > 6/12. Empire shake comes with shade variation in each pallet and contractor must blend tiles from different pallets to insure consistency. Installation must be done in temperatures above 45 degree F.
