Non-toxic industrial strength paint, urethane stripper
Franmar 600GL Coatings Remover (also known as Soy-Gel or Soy Gel) is a specially formulated product designed to remove paints, acrylics, and enamels without the back-breaking work of sanding and chiseling. 600GL is made with 100% American-grown soybeans and is safe for indoor use due to its non-evaporative properties.
It softens almost any finish in 30-60 minutes, even if there are multiple coats - even if it's a catalytic-conversion varnish. 600GL Coatings Remover strips furniture, cabinetry, flooring, molding, doors, windows, stairs, balusters and handrails. Do not use on plastics, PVC, rubber, vinyl, stucco, sheet rock (drywall), or other porous material. Also, do not apply to paint if it has been applied over a topical or penetrating sealer as it will soften the top layers of the sealer and make it sticky for a while until it dries out.
Ideal for lead-based paint removal. The lead becomes encapsulated in the gel, preventing airborne particles and allowing for safe removal. Dispose of in accordance with all existing local, state, and federal ordinances.
NOTE: 600GL Coatings Remover recommends the use of FranMar 700DG Degreaser (formerly Emerge) for effectiveness.
APPLICATION TIP 1: How much do I use? If the surface has 1-2 layers of existing coating, you will need apx. 125 SF/gallon. 2-3 layers will need 75 SF/gallon. Brush on 600GL thicker than the existing finish, e.g. If the coating is 1-2 mil thick use 3-4 mil of 600GL. Thicker applications allows the 600GL to saturate through the finish and break the bond between the coating and the substrate.
APPLICATION TIP 2: How do you know if you've applied enough? If it feels sticky or tacky you need to add more product and/or you need more time for the product to work. If it feels smooth and oily, that means the 600GL has lifted the sealer/finish off the surface. Now it's time to clean up with a de-greaser.
APPLICATION TIP 3: Will Soy Gel remove epoxy coatings? Soy Gel will remove some epoxy and other two-part coatings. We suggest doing a test area before starting any project with epoxy or similar coatings.

NOTE: In the spirit of transparency, the manufacturer states on its label: "Warning, this product contains a chemical (N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, NMP) known to the state of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm" According to the manufacturer of SoyGel, there has been a study in California which applied NMP at 100% strength on pregnant rodents for a month, with frequent re-applications to make sure it was still on their skin. The test resulted in smaller size babies. No tests have been conducted on the 40-45% strength used in SoyGel, as requested by the manufacturer. Of course, there are no tests on humans. Although the warning for NMP is required only by the State of California, the manufacturer has chosen to include the warning on product sold in all 50 states.
