PermaBond non-toxic primer for DeckRevive
PermaBond is an acrylic-based two-part polymer, especially formulated to penetrate and lock into wood fibers, providing a strong molecular bond for DeckRevive. PermaBond offers that extra bit of insurance against some of the unknowns that distressed wood may have been exposed to. Priming with PermaBond ensures excellent adhesion to very weathered boards.
Permabond is non-toxic and zero VOC. It dries quickly and can be mixed with any color by adding 1 quart of 100% water-based acrylic exterior gloss paint. Pot life is 14-21 days after components are blended. Shelf life is 2 years unopened if stored in cool dry area. Do not allow to freeze. Coverage is 300-400 sq. ft. depending upon porosity of the substrate.
NOTE: This is now REQUIRED by the manufacturer for DeckRevive application over new OR old wood.
NOTE2: Pressure treated wood must be seasoned for one year before application of PermaBond. That means the wood must sit out in the weather unprotected for one year before using PermaBond.
Why We Like It
DeckRevive is a fantastic product, but if your deck is badly weathered and falling apart, and you don't have the time or money to sand it down to bare wood, this is the best way to insure they will bond well. You still have to clean off dirt, mold and mildew, but PermaBond is extremely aggressive, and it bonds to almost anything porous.

Specs
Roller
New wood or concrete: Remove any dirt, grease, glue or other contaminants. Moisture content of wood should be no more than 20%. Sand to 150-180 grit. Proper sanding of wood is absolutely critical to achieve the best adhesion of the coating to the substrate.
Old wood or concrete: Clean the surface by power washing, and allow substrate to dry completely for a minimum of 48 hours. DO NOT use a Deck cleaning product because many contain solvents. DO NOT use a detergent with a de-greaser. Acid etching of Concrete is not required
Mixing Instructions: If desired, add one quart of any 100% acrylic exterior gloss latex paint and mix briskly with a drill and paint mixer for one minute.
Application: Apply one coat to wood or concrete by cutting in edges with a nylon/polyester paintbrush. Apply one coat to wood or concrete surface using a 3/8” nap nylon/polyester roller. DO NOT allow PermaBond to cure for extended periods of time before applying subsequent topcoats. As soon as it is dry, immediately apply the initial coat of DeckRevive or DockRevive.
Clean up: Clean tools with warm, soapy water.
